Do you remember when Mielle Organics first expanded into skincare nearly three years ago? The Black-owned brand built on the success of its Pomegranate & Honey haircare line and infused those same ingredients into products for the face, which at the time included a cleanser, serum, SPF Face Lotion, mask, and stretch mark cream. I became a fast fan of the Hydrating Face Mask and Revitalizing Face Serum much like I have the newest addition to the line: Pomegranate & Honey Blend Vitamin C Under Eye Gel Drops.
For some reason, as much of a lover of vitamin C-infused skincare products as I am, I’ve never used an eyecare product with the ingredient in it, which does wonders for brightening skin. That’s why it’s included in these drops to help reduce the appearance of those dark circles we all get under our eyes at some point and to deliver an antioxidant boost that helps even out skin tone overall while still being moisturizing.
One-two drops is all you need for this gel to go to work. I tend to use more undereye creams than gels so, curious how I’d like this product, I requested a sample from the brand. To my surprise, I really enjoy the consistency of the gel, which isn’t solid like PTR’s Hyaluronic Cloud Eye Gel for instance, but it’s also not as runny as a serum. Honestly, it was a perfect blend of the two types of products which allowed it to stay put in the under-eye area as you pat it into the skin.
I was worried I might be left with a wet feeling under my eye after use but the gel absorbs into the skin quickly; it also doesn’t leave a sticky residue which was another concern I had. Though this product isn’t marketed as an underye-tightening product, I do notice a tightening sensation about 10 minutes after use which is on par with vitamin C, as it’s known to improve skin’s firmness and elasticity.
Now you might be asking why pomegranate and honey in an eye gel and I have an answer. As Dr. Marie Hayag, Board Certified Dermatologist and Founder of 5th Avenue Aesthetics, told Byrdie.com, when it comes to pomegranate, “Not only does it contain about 48% of the daily vitamin C, but also contains other antioxidants such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and tannins. With all these antioxidants you have one of the ultimate blockers in free radical damage, which is a big cause in aging.” And we all know aging, as it relates to the eye area, means fine lines, wrinkles, bags, and crows feet, none of which any of us wants.
As far as honey is concerned, it’s been a certified antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory DIY remedy for minimizing dark circles and reducing puffiness for years. As natural beauty expert told Sheknows.com, “Raw honey is incredible for your skin thanks to its antibacterial properties and hefty serving of skin-saving antioxidants.” Of course, few of us have the time to whip up natural concoctions in our homes, which is what makes pre-packed products like this one that bottle up the goodies we need so perfect.
These eye drops aren’t the only new addition to the Pomegranate and Honey line. Mielle Organics has also launched two new products for the hair: the Pomegranate & Honey Blend Super Hold Gel and Pomegranate & Honey Curl Defining Mousse w/ Hold. Check out the full collection of pomegranate.
