Lip Augmentation
The lips are one of the most alluring features on a person’s face. While the shape and plumpness of our lips are dictated by age and genetics, achieving a fuller, sexier pout is possible with a non-surgical lip augmentation procedure.
Lip augmentation is the process by which the lips are enhanced using hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to produce not simply bigger lips but more defined, younger, healthier looking lips. While the most common lip augmentation procedure involves injecting a dermal filler like Restylane, Restylane Kysse, or Juvederm into the lips to add extra volume, dermal fillers can also be used to define the lips and improve the structure and shape, without adding extra volume. With dermal fillers, the results are immediate with little to no downtime.
There are other treatments available to enhance the appearance of the lips including a lip lift (also known as a lip flip). This is done by injecting a tiny amount of neurotoxin into the lip line to relax the muscles that contract when we smile. Before performing a lip augmentation at her office in New York City, Dr. Hayag evaluates the patient’s lips considering different criteria which includes the patient’s age, ethnicity, facial features, and the patient’s desires. The goal is to always produce “natural-looking” lips appropriate for each individual. This requires a keen eye and good technique.
Lip augmentation in-office experience:
We will have you arrive approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time so that photos can be taken and Dr. Hayag can evaluate your lips and discuss your treatment goals with you. Once your treatment plan is in place, a topical numbing cream will be applied to your lips and you will relax for 30 minutes in the privacy of your own treatment room. One of Dr. Hayag’s nurses will answer any questions you may have about the treatment and talk about post treatment care. After 30 minutes, the numbing cream is removed, and the skin is cleaned with a gentle, antimicrobial cleanser. Before Dr. Hayag does each injection, ice is applied to the lip by one of her nurses to increase patient comfort during the procedure. After the injections are complete an ice pack is gently applied to the lips to help reduce any swelling. Some swelling may be present for 24-48 hours after the injections but will resolve over time. Ice can help reduce swelling in the treatment area. Bruising is also a possibility as with all injections in which case topical arnica can be applied several times a day for the next several days to speed up the time it takes to heal. When you schedule your lip augmentation procedure, please request our pre-injection instructions which can be emailed to you for your convenience.
