Summer Skincare Blog

As you start preparing for beach days, travel, and other summer activities, remember not to leave your skincare routine behind!

Apply sunscreen! The number one cause of premature skin aging is sun exposure. There’s no secret here, sunscreens with a minimum SPF of 30 are the best way to prevent aging. You can use physical or chemical sunscreens to protect yourself from photodamage. Just remember to apply and apply often!

Some of my favorites sunscreens include:

  • Neova Everyday Facial Fluid– This is a great combo of physical and chemical sunscreen. It has a lightweight finish and a slight tint to cover up any imperfections.
  • SkinBetter Science sunbetter SHEER SPF 46 Sunscreen Stick– I love this physical sunscreen stick for when I’m on the go. It makes reapplication really simple and easy.
  • MDSolar Sciences Mineral Creme SPF 50– This is a great everyday physical sunscreen that’s lightweight and goes on like silk.

Now is not the time to skip out on moisturizer (yes, even if it’s 100 degrees outside). You won’t, however, need a moisturizer that’s as thick and heavy as you would in the colder months. Choose a water based moisturizer for something lighter, or opt for a moisturizer that has SPF.

Incorporate antioxidants into your routine! Applying topical antioxidants like Vitamin C underneath sunscreen can help boost protection from UV rays. It also has many other useful roles in improving your skin. It helps fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C also helps our skin increase collagen production. It really helps your skin look younger, brighter, and more even all while protecting your skin from environmental damage.

Ready to integrate antioxidants into your regimen? Here’s my recommendation:

  • Val C+E Ferulic Complex-It’s formulated with 21% Vitamin C and also contains beta hydroxy acid to enhance the Vitamin C’s penetration into the skin. Additionally, the ferulic acid and vitamin E help stabilize vitamin C (it’s notorious for being extremely stable and oxidizes when exposed to air or light).

Switch up your cleanser. During the colder months, many cleansers can feel a bit too much for your skin, but they can be the deep clean your skin needs during warmer months. Opt for gel or foaming cleansers, especially if you tend to have oily skin.

It’s also vital to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! During the summer, our bodies lose water faster. Without a combination of hydration through skincare products and simply drinking enough water, it will reflect on your skin. Dehydrated skin can appear to be dull and make pores, wrinkles, and lines appear to be more prominent.

Following these skincare tips will help keep your skin healthy and glowing this summer!
